On Monday of this week I was informed, by someone in the know, that I was, in fact, hugging wrong. Specifically, when one hugs someone shorter than oneself, one should not lean into the hug. Shoulder to shoulder hugging, while it may feel completely natural to the taller participant, feels awkward, perhaps even unpleasant to the less-tall participant.
The proper way for two people to hug, regardless of their height, is in a parallel fashion with no bending or stooping. This allows for maximum chest-to-chest contact and “huggage.”
Go try it.
